Design Ops

Overview
With 8 years of experience in Design Operations, spanning teams of various sizes, companies at different stages, and global collaborators with unique approaches, the focus is on creating efficient workflows that connect design, product, and engineering. Expertise includes implementing the Double Diamond framework, running design sprints, facilitating cross-functional meetings, and maintaining comprehensive design documentation. This approach ensures seamless delivery, team alignment, and user-centric, scalable solutions.
Design Process
Double Diamond Framework
The Double Diamond model is a proven framework that guides design teams from initial research to final implementation. It consists of four stages:

1) Discovery
: Explore the problem space, gather insights, and understand user needs through research and observation. Methods: user interviews, surveys, and competitive analysis.

2) Define: Synthesize findings into clear problem statements, identifying the key challenges to address. Tools: personas, journey maps, and "How Might We" questions.

3) Develop: Brainstorm and prototype creative solutions, testing them iteratively with users to refine the designs. Deliverables: wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.

4) Implement: Finalize the design and work closely with engineers to ensure seamless delivery. Outcomes: production-ready designs, quality assurance, and user feedback loops.
Design Sprints
Design sprints are aimed at solving critical design challenges before the development process begins. Running a design sprint before development ensures alignment, reduces risks, and accelerates delivery.
Design Meetings
Effective communication is key to successful design operations. These are some of the meetings that I found very helpful:

- Trio Planning Meetings: Collaborate with lead engineers and product managers to prioritize features and define scope.

- Design Critiques: Gather feedback from peers to refine and elevate design quality.

- Stakeholder Reviews: Present progress and gather input from business and executive stakeholders.

- Hand-Off Meetings: Ensure a seamless transfer of design assets and specifications to development teams.
Design documentation
Comprehensive documentation ensures consistency, alignment, and scalability. Each feature or project includes:

- Problem Definition & Narrowing Solutions: Clear articulation of the problem and rationale for the chosen approach.

- Discovery/Research: Data, insights, and evidence gathered during the discovery phase.

- Agreement: Finalized decisions made collaboratively with stakeholders, including rationale.

- Metrics: Success criteria and KPIs to measure the feature’s impact.

Organized and accessible documentation fosters collaboration and serves as a resource for future projects.
